Saint Joan of Arc

Saint Joan of Arc was a French heroine and Catholic saint who played a pivotal role during the later stages of the Hundred Years' War. At 16 years old, she said she began receiving visions from saints instructing her to help France and support the dauphin, Charles VII. She persuaded Charles to let her accompany the French army and became closely association with the successful lifting of the Siege of Orleans in 1429, a major turning point in the war. In 1430, Joan was captured by forces allied with the English. She was tried for heresy by an ecclesiastical court, found guilty, and burned at the stake in 1431 at the age of 19 years. She was canonized as a saint in 1920 by Pope Benedict XV. This pup is named in honor of the astonishing Saint and my dear Aunt Joan in Heaven.
